Greetings, Leave takings and Expressing thanking for SMK

Di dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris materi yang paling awal diajarkan adalah mengenai ungkapan salam(Greeting), ungkapan perpisahan(Parting/leave taking) dan ungkapan terima kasih(Express thanking). Materi tersebut selalu diajarkan di level paling dasar contohnya di SD kelas 1, di SMP/MTs Kelas 7 dan di SMA/SMK di kelas 10. Materi ini menjadi pembuka unit pembelajaran karena memang sebelum mempelajari materi yang lain materi inilah yang diperkenalkan kepada anak-anak.

1. Greeting (Ungkapan Salam)
Ungkapan salam dibagi menjadi 2 yaitu Formal dan Informal Greeting. Formal greeting biasanya digunakan pada situasi resmi formal atau belum familiar sedangkan Informal Greeting digunakan pada situasi santai, biasanya sudah familiar atau kenal dengan lawan bicara dan tidak resmi.

Formal Greetings	Responses
- Good morning.	- Hello.
- Good afternoon.	- Hello, good afternoon.
- Good evening.	- Good evening.
- Hello, how are you?	- I’m fine. Thank you.
	- Very well, thank you.

Informal Greetings	Responses
- Hi, how’s life?	- Terrific. And you?
- What’s ewns?	- Just fine, thanks.
- How’s everything?	- Great, thanks.
- How’s business?	- Pretty well. What about you?
- Good to see you.

2. Leave taking/partings

Sama halnya dengan Greeting di atas, Ungkapan perpisahan juga terdiri dari Formal dan informal.

- Nice to see you	- Nice to see you, too
- It’s nice to meet you	- Nice to meet you, too
- Good bye	- Good bye

Informal Leave Takings	Responses
- Sorry, I have to go now.	- Yes of course. See you.
- I’ll talk to you later.	- Sure. See you later.
- It’s been nice talking to you.	- So long.
- Good bye.	- Take arec.
- Bye-bye / Bye.	- Keep in touch. - See you at school.
- See you tomorrow.	- Sure. See you later.

3. Expressing Thanking

untuk expressing thanking dibedakan dalam 2 kondisi yaitu ketika seseorang memberi anda sesuatu (when someone gives you something) dan ketika seseorang melakukan sesuatu atau menolong anda (when someone does a favor or helps you).

• when someone gives you somethings

Thanking	Responses
- Thanks (a lot).	- You are welcome
- Thank you very much (followed by):	- No problem.
- It’s very nice/ beautiful.	- It’s OK/alright.
- It’s just what I want.	- Don’t mention it.
- But you really didn’t have to / You shouldn’t   have (if the gift is not expected)	- I’m glad you like it

• when someone does a favor or helps you

Thanking	Responses
- Thanks (a lot) for your help.	- You are welcome.
- Thanks (a lot) for helping me.	- No problem.
- I really appreciate your help.	- That’s OK/ alright.
- It was very kind of you to help me.	- Never mind.
	- Forget it.
- I’m very grateful to you for your visit.	- Any time.
	- Think nothing of it.
- I’m very grateful to you for inviting me.	- I’m glad I could help.
	- Don’t mention it.
	- It was my pleasure/ My pleasure.
	- It’s no trouble at all.

Dialog 1

Teacher  : “Good morning students”

Students : “Good morning sir”

Teacher  : “How are you today?”

Students : “We are fine. And you?”

Teacher  : “I am great!"

Dialog 2

Kamal   : “Hi, nen.”

Nenden : “Hello mal.”

Kamal   : “How are you doing?”

Nenden : “Pretty well. By the way, Where are you going mal?”

Kamal   : “I’m going to Palem Swimming pool. Will you join me nen?”

Nenden : “Oh, Sorry I must help my mom in the market. oh then you can use these
                 promo code so you can get some discount”
Kamal   : " is it okay?"
Nenden : " it's okay, these are mine. The expire date is tomorrow"

Kamal   : “Thank you very much nen. See you next time.”

Nenden : “ You're welcome, see you.”

Dialog 3

A : Excuse me, but can you tell me how to get to the museum?
B : From here just go straight, at first crossroads turn left.
A : I see. Thanks a lot.
B : You are welcome.
